My name is Retta Plunkett and I have been teaching piano since 1974. I have lived and taught in New Jersey, Texas, and North Carolina, and have had students of all ages and levels. I specialize in ages 4-12 and generally use Faber's Piano Adventures Series. I also have experience teaching teens and adults.
My education consists of many years of piano and then organ lessons as well as some online courses, and of course attending seminars and workshops for music teachers. After over forty years of teaching experience and countless hours of playing the piano or organ has given me "on the job" training.
Right now I give lessons in my home studio. I incorporate music theory, learning about composers, games and other learning techniques into lessons. My goal is to instill in each student and excitement about music, as well as a desire to learn and do well in this endeavor. We offer Music Lab during each lesson where students use the computer or other tasks to learn and develop necessary skills to play the piano and read music. It has often been said that the piano is the easiest instrument to use in learning to read music. Gaining the ability to play the piano and read music also makes it easier to pick up another instrument at a later date.
I would love to hear from you and have your child (or you!) begin the journey to learning, enjoying, and appreciating music. Please don't hesitate to contact me to set up a time when we can meet.
